Devara: Part 1 is a 2024 Indian Telugu-language action drama film directed by Koratala Siva and jointly produced by Yuvasudha Arts and N. T. R. Arts.[4] The film stars N. T. Rama Rao Jr in dual roles, alongside Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor in their first Telugu film. Shruti Marathe, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Shine Tom Chacko, Narain, Kalaiyarasan and Murali Sharma appear in supporting roles.
The film was officially announced in April 2021 under the tentative title NTR30, as it is Rama Rao’s 30th film as a lead actor, and the official title was announced in May 2023. In late-2023, the film was split into two-parts. Principal photography for this part commenced in April 2023 and wrapped in August 2024. Filming took place in Hyderabad, Shamshabad, Visakhapatnam, Goa and Thailand. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography handled by R. Rathnavelu and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad respectively.
Devara: Part 1 released worldwide on 27 September 2024 in standard, IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX, D-Box, MX4D and ICE formats to mixed reviews from critics with praise for Jr. NTR and Saif Ali Khan’s performances, action sequences, cinematography and music, but criticized its script and writing in the second half.[5]

The film begins with a few policemen interrogating a suspect and asking him about ‘Yethi’, who says to go to the Ratnagiri mountains. When they reach the place, they pose undercover as those trying to employ smugglers for an off-sea job. However, they are violently rejected by Bhairava. They then find Singappa who takes them offshore in a boat. The undercover officer tries to make an offer to him by showing off a diamond ring which is abruptly thrown into the sea by Singappa. As the officer dives to retrieve the ring, he finds skeletons in the seabed.
Singappa then starts narrating the story which begins in the 1980s. The story is centered around a group of villages whose inhabitants were once warriors defending the seas, but after Independence were reduced to smugglers in the infamous Red Sea which gained its name from the blood of the enemies the warriors defended the land from.
Devara is a chieftain of one of the villages and is part of the group who smuggles (for Muruga) from the merchant ships along with Bhairava who the chief of another such village in the Ratnagiri mountains. Unbeknownst to them, they smuggle illegal arms which are in turn used in robberies, and one such incident occurs near the villages. During a smuggling expedition, when they are caught by the coast guard, the commander of the vessel reveals the items they smuggle and that he expects high from the descendants of warriors. Devara then decides to stop the operations which isn’t liked by the other chieftains including Bhairava, who hatches plans to kill him which fail. Devara successfully stops the villagers from entering the seas for smuggling and tells them to rely solely on fishing for their livelihood. Devara disappears after an attempt to kill him and writes near a shore that he will continue to kill those who venture out to the high seas for smuggling.
Years pass and everyone adopts fishing as their livelihood as Devara kills those smuggling while remaining invisible to the villagers. His son, Vara grows up and is quite opposite in demeanor to Devara who is seen as a brave warrior. The story revolves around Vara and Thangam who is the daughter of the chieftains of one of the other villages. The timid Vara tries to make his family forget about his father, who according to him abandoned them.
